James Dickey: The World As A Lie (Click to see book cover) (811pp. ISBN: 0312203209, Picador USA), the biography by Henry Hart, was released on April 4, 2000. The book gives a detailed description of Dickey's life, but Hart searches only for negativity in this biography, which makes the reading experience sour. Unfortunately, at times, Hart's descriptions are often opinions or fictious tales. You have to be careful of validity when you read this book.

—The search goes on for the lead role in To The White Sea the motion picture. Brad Pitt, who is on again and off again, is now said to be completely off production. The Coen Brothers, who directed "Fargo," "The Big Lebowski," and "Raising Arizona," are still set to direct the film with the screenplay written by Dickey.

—Gordon Van Ness, a Dickey scholar, is working on a two volume set of letters by James Dickey. The first volume is expected to be complete by the end of summer.

Crux: The Letters of James Dickey (Click to see book cover) (Knopf; ISBN: 0375404198 576 pgs.) was released in late October 1999. The letters are edited by Matthew Bruccoli and Judith Baughman. The book contains letters to writers such as Robert Penn Warren, Anne Sexton, Randall Jarrell, Ezra Pound, and James Wright. 20 black and white photos are included in the book.

The James Dickey Reader (Click to see book cover) (ISBN: 0684864355 Simon & Schuster), edited by Henry Hart, was released on August 24, 1999. The book includes poems, excerpts from his novels, and 17-pages from his uncompleted sequel to his novel Alnilam called Crux. Henry Hart's, the editor who seems to be searching for negative ideas in Dickey's life and writings, introduction is very unpleasant--he only offers a small positive comment to Dickey in the last sentence.
