Synopsis:
In Dickey's third and last novel he mixed some of the suspense of Deliverance and the World War II and flight
elements of Alnilam to get To the White Sea. The protagonist, Muldrow, parachutes from his burning B-29 into the city of Tokyo.
Trapped in the middle of enemy country, Muldrow knows he must travel north and guides himself toward
Hokkaido as he thinks about his Alaskan home. Muldrow's only weapon is a sharpened butter knife that he uses to guide through the ribs toward an enemy's heart.
Muldrow, using only a small silk map of Japan, must avoid attention and recognition as he travels secretly
from town to town searching for food and shelter.
